One Boys 'TOY' Can Be A 'GOD' To Some Other 'KID!' ...And Ain't It Odd How 'MAN' Loves To Play 'WAR?'

Words spoken by the creator of StarArena in conversation:
“It is possible that my current-day-obsession lies within my childhood-toys.” As the youngest in a generation of Frith descendants, bequeathed to me were Action Man hand-me-downs from my cousins. A quick online search reveals that I mostly held Flock-Head (1970~1976) action figures and a few Painted-Head (1966~1969) toy dolls.

Each year when I visited family in England, another donation was made to my collection of Action Men and Materiel. By the ages of seven, eight, and nine, I played with the Assault Craft, Helicopter, Scout Car, and Scorpion Tank. The cool thing about these toys was their ruggedness and ability to be taken outside to play in the garden.

Most battles were fought between British infantrymen, parachutists, soldiers, and army officers against the camp Kommandant, staff officers, and storm-troopers. How peaceful we used to be at playing war as a child? Other brands that are etched into memory are the toy soldiers and model kits from Matchbox, Revell, and Airfix.

Somehow, your game-smith skipped playing with scandinavian building-blocks or germanic plastic-figurines and themed-play-sets (both invented by woodworkers, by the way). Instead, as a child, I bypassed all that rubbish and went straight for what was considered the big-kid and adult section of the toy store. Standing and staring at the displays of army model kits was by far my favorite childhood museum.

Essentially, These memories continue to inspire me to this day…

About Star Arena Games...

The company is a one-man factory run by PJay_BabyAngel_Frith. It started as a hobby project in 1995 and was reopened in 2010 to spend his downtime on, in between commissions as a Woodsmith. He always told himself that someday he would focus on it full-time, until Covid kicked his ass in December 2020. Three years later, it seems unlikely that ‘ANGEL’ will return to carpentry in full capacity.

Little did he know that he was working on his forced retirement plan. This is now his Trade and Craft.

In this story section, we skip the 80s altogether and jump right into the 90s as I enter my twenties.By now, your humble game-smith has become a serious Comic collector and craves a continuous monthly fix of stories.Juxtaposed is my mate from childhood and Baby-Brother-In-Arms at TBHead-Quarters, whose collectible fetish is aimed towards Toys kept in mint-condition.

One could say that Superheroes, Villains, and Cartoons were our religion, and our studio was a place of worship.Combined with several game platforms throughout the years, there has always been enough “inspiration” or “distraction” available in our workspace. All of this feeds and leads to the aspiration of creating our own toy line of the The Baby Hype.

Through experimentation and receiving outside help and assistance, we successfully created prototypes in 1993, thereby converting our Tags into Toys. These ‘toys’ were our pride and joy, first revealed to the public at the TBH Overexposure show in January 1994.But from there, the dream declines, for there are many obstacles on the path to production...

Although the #AtomicBabyClones are used as pawns on the Tournament-Table in the game development of StarArena, they ultimately end up in a shoe-box.After deciding to overhaul the StarArena story engine a few years earlier, the game-smith resurrected the Toy-Production in 2014.After all, they are the Toy Baby Heroes of the game!

What you will find for sale on this game portal is essentially the ‘babushka’ effect, a Hobby within a Hobby. Something I like to work on in my downtime, but last on my list, for lack of funds or energy. Also, there is that degree of feeling like ‘a duck out of water’ because sculpting is not my skill or trade. But it is something that one must endure to achieve one’s goals…

Would I like to lead a team of Modellers & Animators instead of working with clay? What can I say; Hell-Yes!! However, until that day – if ever – we will continue to do it the hard way: slow and traditional… Meanwhile it is ‘Fun‘ to create custom made ‘Toy-Packs!For in my mind, this is the Ultimate-Form of Graphiti!! To spel it out; Where Graphic-Design meets Graffiti…
